Falcons OT Kaleb McGary Carted Off After Practice Injury Ahead of Preseason Finale

During Wednesday’s practice in Flowery Branch, Atlanta Falcons starting right tackle Kaleb McGary was carted off the field due to what appeared to be a lower left leg injury. The team has not yet provided an official update on his condition.

McGary a 2019 first-round pick has been a dependable presence on the line, starting 92 of 93 career games. He recently signed an extension that secures his spot in Atlanta through the 2027 season.

In the event McGary remains sidelined, Falcons’ offense could be tested, especially as he protects the blind side of left-handed quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who is entering his first full season as the team’s starter.

During practice, Elijah Wilkinson assumed right tackle duties in McGary’s place. Backup options include veteran Brandon Parker and rookie Jack Nelson, both listed as primary backups. Meanwhile, swing tackle Storm Norton remains sidelined with an undisclosed lower-body injury and is unlikely to play in Friday’s preseason finale against Dallas.

ESPN reports that McGary is undergoing an MRI to assess the extent of the injury. A team spokesperson noted that a status update will be provided “at an appropriate time.”

Offseason health context: McGary had recently returned from surgery for bone spurs in his left ankle specifically, an offseason arthroscopic procedure that caused him to miss OTAs and minicamp, though he returned in full during training camp.
