Raiders Legend Terry McDaniel to Ignite Al Davis Memorial Torch Before Preseason Game Against 49ers

Former Raiders defensive back Terry McDaniel is set to light the Al Davis Memorial Torch before Saturday’s preseason clash between the Las Vegas Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers.

McDaniel, a first round pick by the Raiders in the 1988 NFL Draft from Tennessee, enjoyed a decade-long career in silver and black. He played in 143 games, starting 137, and earned five straight Pro Bowl selections. Notably, he holds the franchise record for defensive touchdowns (seven) and led the team in interceptions in six different seasons .

The torch lighting tradition began in Oakland in 2011, with the legendary John Madden being the first to carry the honor on October 18 of that year. In Las Vegas, Carol Davis, honored as the First Lady of Raider Nation, became the inaugural torch lighter during Allegiant Stadium’s opening ceremony on September 21, 2020 .

Symbolizing the enduring legacy of Al Davis as Raiders owner, Hall of Famer, AFL Coach of the Year, and AFL Commissioner with a vision rooted in the “Commitment to Excellence” the Memorial Torch honors the competitive spirit and legacy Davis instilled in the franchise .
